Fever

Fever in a newborn could be caused by:

Exposure to extreme temperatures.

Excessive clothing.

Dehydration, especially if the child has not been fed for long.

Infection.

High fever upto 102 degrees Fahrenheit in a newborn could be dangerous and needs immediate management. Even before you see your paediatrician.

Take off your baby's clothes and sponge her with cool water, till the temperature reduces to around 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Feed her if you feel that she is dehydrated.

Alternatively, if your baby's body feels very cool, she might have an infection. Check her temperature. If it is below 96 degrees Farenheit, wrap her snugly with warm clothing, taking care to cover the scalp, and see your paediatrician.
